Project title: Inflammation in fat embolism syndrome

Fat and bone marrow embolization occurs particularly in trauma involving major fractures, but also in elective plastic and orthopedic surgery, or during procedures such as intraosseous cannulation. We attempt to shed light on the pathophysiology following embolization, focusing in the inflammatory processes with particular focus on innate immune response. We create clinically relevant models in in vivo research, and attempt to expand on whether complement inhibition may play a therapeutic role in in vivo and in vitro experiments.
